Ibtihaj Al Harthi

The Bigger Picture

Professional children's book illustrator and author, Ibtihaj Al Harthi, will be with us to talk about her career path as an artist and professional, publishing illustrator in Oman.

 

Through her recently published book "Mah and Me" and her online series "Hans Hedgehog" she will be giving an insight into her work and motivation as well as tips and advice on how to develop ideas, concepts and stories using drawings as a language that can speak for itself. Ibtihaj will also go deeper into working with publishers abroad, publishing yourself online, and what steps to take if you consider approaching illustration as a profession.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone that wants to express themself through art and drawings and pursue visual story telling, through books, comics, or art in general.

Ibtihaj Al Harthi was born in Muscat, Oman in 1982. She works predominantly in digital medium but includes oil paintings, pastel and watercolour drawings. She did her MFA in Illustration at the Academy of Art University, majoring in children's books illustration. Her thesis focuses on fairytales using the graphic novel format and traditional Omani folktales. Her artwork is inspired by magical realism and infused by the the everyday magic seen in the local life in Omani villages. She has participated in many local exhibitions including the Annual Youth Art Exhibition, and illustrated many artwork directed to children including three published children's books. She is a member at the Omani Society for Fine Arts (OSFA) and the Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Ibtihaj lives and works in Muscat.
