Faiza Saeed

Mosaics II

INSTRUCTOR:

Faiza Saeed

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Faiza Saeed is the first mosaic artist in Bahrain. Faiza grew up with a passion for art. Having dabbled in painting and collage making she is mostly inspired by her brother the Bahraini artist, Abdulhameed Saeed. As a child she was exposed to his surreal paintings that went on to influenced her work. Faiza's love for mosaics started from the moment she laid eyes on them when visiting museums in Britain, Italy, and Spain.

She then went on to meet legendary British mosaic artist Emma Biggs taking lessons on designing and experimenting with the medium from her London studio.

Faiza Saeed continues to experiment with Mosaics, first on tables and wall pieces, and soon will be building her first wall installation piece. Faiza continues to sell her work in markets, at exhibitions, and conducts weekly classes for beginners. She also customizes tables for cafes around the Middle East, and collaborates with home owners on wall fixtures for their homes and gardens.

OBJECTIVES:

During the 2 sessions of the second workshop with Bahraini mosaist Faiza Saeed, participants will have a choice to work in the direct or indirect method of designing and creating a mosaic.

In the direct method, the pieces of material you are going to mosaic with, known as tesserae, are directly fixed top side up onto a base or substrate and then grouted. In the indirect method pieces are temporarily fixed top side down onto a removable base material, such as paper to transfer the mosaic to another location, most commonly walls, but also other smooth, and flat surfaces such as tables and tiles. An advantage is that this allows the detail of the design to be seen while the mosaic is being made. So join for a personalised mosaic session with an experienced artist by your side to take your mosaic skills to the next level.
